Abstract

The Floor Test (v1.0) — Heartbeat Framework, Applied Series No. 4.

A 90-day field protocol for testing the Heartbeat Framework on a real unit: baseline the vitals, change one thing, read the result — and send it back, especially if it is null.

Every document in this series ends the same way: the frameworks are argument and synthesis until they meet a floor, and the only reviewer left is someone who runs one. This document is the reply envelope. It converts the series' claims into a protocol any unit lead can run in ninety days with no budget, no new software, and two to three hours a week: a two-week baseline capture of nine vitals (override rate, alert positive-predictive value, gate verification time, near-miss reporting rate, workaround census, responder concentration, we/they language, the double-zero check, and a three-question trust pulse); one intervention chosen from a menu of five, run for ninety days with everything else left alone; a repeat capture; and a one-page return. Each intervention carries its predicted vital movements, stated in advance so the test can fail — and a null result is explicitly a contribution, not a disappointment. The protocol is designed as service evaluation of your own deployed systems, not research on people: no resident, patient, or staff-identifiable data leaves your site, and the handling rules travel with it — nothing captured here is ever used for individual performance management. Run it, and whatever you find, send the page back. The frameworks were written alone; they can only be made true, or corrected, together.

One named lead, zero budget, two to three hours a week. Paul Blatherwick, RMN. July 2026.
